Location independence: the ability to work from anywhere, more specifically due to the connectivity of the internet.

Would you find it appealing to work:

  • within a deadline, as opposed to a daily regimen?
  • how you want, meaning not having to adhere to a company's culture?
  • where you want, whether it be the couch, the bed or a far off country?

Then you may want what is called a location independent job.

Now a days, many employers are constantly posting such jobs on the internet., one of the most popular freelance job boards on the net, is one such site.

At the most basic level, someone who wanted to freelance would have to have a basic proficiency of the English language and computer skills equal to that of the average 12 year old.

That's because with the propensity to learn and with the touch for customer care, one could quickly adapt to the world of freelancing.

Honestly though, the low-skill level jobs mentioned above do not tend to be high-paying.

But for those who can bring more to the table as a freelancer, high-paying jobs exist in plenty.

For instance, most people who've attended college can write pretty decently, whether in the form of a research paper or a creative piece. And believe it or not, writing is one of the most needed skills in the maintaining the web.

A writer's skill is useful for (types of tasks):

  • Press releases
  • Blog articles
  • Sales copy
  • Copywriting for business documents

Skills that are useful for (types of employers):

  • Web development companies (they need someone to write the website's content)
  • Online marketers (copywriting is integral to this business: think social media, landing pages, articles, etc)
  • Search engine optimizers (similar to online marketers with much overlap)
  • Small businesses (who rather hire an individual than a firm)

A writer would easily learn online how to write a press release or how to write a blog article or how to make their writing search engine-friendly. Thanks to the web, it's easier to learn how to translate a skill into a profitable product or service.

The same is true for artists, whether graphic or video. Whether proficient in Photoshop or Illustrator. Whether into animation or live-action.

There are honestly so many jobs available when it comes to offering a service online as a freelancer.
