Beware the calls of the Sirens. Though their songs are irresistibly sweet, a tragic end is what you will meet.
The digital nomad, a modern charlatan.
Digital nomads, as we all know, are a group of people who in theory are able to freely travel the world because the internet links them to some source of income.
More than just being location independent
, digital nomadism is a lifestyle meant for people who want to take in the world without being tied down by people or by places.
Within this community, there exists a subgroup for which this article is named.
"Make Money. Live Anywhere. Be Free. As a digital nomad, you can make money online, thus allowing you to live life limitlessly."
That is the sales-pitch they are selling. And to be honest, I agree with them. Profiting via the internet does open a lot of possibilities in one's life.
But it's completely disingenuous to sell the dreams of this lifestyle without teaching of the realities.
And that's what the lot of these salesmen do: share a "highlight reel" version of their life. They hook hopeful people into believing what they're selling is real.
But it's not.
Those of us more experienced in the game know this.
Everything in life has pros and cons.
You're always going to be able to admire something from the outside without knowing what it's really like on the inside.
That's why they say the grass is always greener on the other side.
I could list countless things that suck about freelancing and owning an online business and living in Thailand.
Not to complain, but to balance out all the powdered sugar bullshit that exists out there.
And not because I dislike this work or lifestyle, but because work and life both suck sometimes.
But you know what?
